The Cape Breton Crawling Crustacea is a masters swim club based out of Sydney Nova Scotia. Started in 2005, the club has grown to include over 60 members and now offers five workouts per week from September to June. Crusties have ranged in age from 15 to over 70. Our reasons to swim vary. Some swim just for fitness, some are pure swimmers and compete provincially and nationally. Many of us are focused on triathlons.
Whether you are just learning to swim, have some experience, or are an expert swimmer, you will fit into our group somewhere. We have everything from novices, to Ironman competitors, to provincial age group record holders. If you are nervous in the water, or can't make 1 length of the pool, you are better off to try one of our beginner's programs. If you can do a length without stopping, you're OK to join. Workouts are coached, with a suggested workout, and the coach on deck to help with your stroke. We swim 6 days per week. As a paid member, you can come to any or all of the swims.
Although we don't officially swim through July-Aug-Sept, informal outdoor swim get-togethers are arranged on an ad-hoc basis through these months.
This is not only a good way to improve your swimming, but a great group of people to hang out with. Want to be a Crustie? Contact us about membership. The only prerequisite is enthusiasm and a strong desire to have fun and get fit! Use the "contact us" link at the top of the page to get further information about prices and how to join.
Our swims are: Tuesday 8-9:30PM at Kiwanis, Wednesday 8-9PM Kiwanis, Thursday 6-7PM CGC, Saturday 8-9:30AM CGC, Sunday 8-9AM Kiwanis.
